Jim and Kathy Lobinsky

Tell us how you first got involved with United Way of St. Johns County.

We both worked for Publix and were encouraged to donate to United Way. We began participating in "allocations" (Community Impact Fund) and partner agencies. We saw all the good things that United Way was doing in the community and wanted to be a part of that. Now that we have retired, we are giving back time we didn't have while working.

What do you wish other people knew about UW-SJC?

We are amazed by the impact of the United Way and its partner agencies. Until you become involved, you can't understand the needs in the community and how United Way is helping to fill those needs.

Tell us about a positive experience you’ve had as UW-SJC volunteers.

There have been so many positive experiences, but seeing how all the partner agencies work together to serve the community is amazing.

When you aren’t volunteering, what can we find you doing?

We volunteer with Special Olympics and Jim is also coaching. We like to travel and maybe go to a concert occasionally.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

We are most proud of our sons. Watching our oldest son, J.R., compete in the Special Olympics is amazing. Our youngest son Jordan was just promoted to management for Publix which was also a very proud moment for us.
